Around the House

John and I have been doing a little redecorating the past few weeks. Yesterday Amy and I went shopping, and I found these two vintage 1930's chairs at a local antique store. We needed dining room chairs DESPERATELY and I thought these would be a quirky addition to the apartment. John is not a huge fan unfortunately, but I like them.

Then today John and I decided we needed a new coffee table b/c the dinky $5 one I found at the thrift store last year just wasn't cutting it anymore. We went back to the same antique store and found this 1800's trunk. It was a little pricey, but the store owner let us have 10% off if we paid in cash.

(I love the handles)

Finally here, are some new additions to my ridiculous necklace collection. Both are vintage and were purchased on Ebay.

Belt It Out

I was perusing the Urban Renewal section of Urban Outfitters the other day when I cam across two belts that looked familiar. Their Vintage Western Belt and Vintage Navajo Belt are exactly like 2 that I have found at the thrift store for only $1 each. A lot of their items are cute, but I would definitely recommend rummaging around your local thrift store before purchasing.

Tuesday's Thrift Store Finds

This morning I decided to kill 2 birds with one stone and I walked up to the little Church charity shop. I figured I walked about 3 miles total and it was nice to be outside and get some exercise. While I am home I need to make working out a daily thing. Anywho, today the store was having a 75% off sale b/c they are trying to make room for new items. I picked up a book, a china piggy bank (doesn't it have a funny expression?), 2 vintage egg baskets, a fish barrette (might make this into a necklace), and a vintage mirror for only $5 total.

The Jewelry Box

Hey guys! I have been working hard on my other blog... the Jewelry Box. Please check it out if you have a minute and let me know what you think :)

Monday's Thrift Store Finds

I took a trip to Savers today b/c I was in the neighborhood. I really miss my old thrift stores,though... I really find Goodwill and Savers overpriced.

Anyways, I found a vintage yellow/cream silk blouse that I picture myself wearing with thin gold bracelets ($6.99), a gorgeous Etienne Aigner belt that I don't think was every worn ($3.99), a leather purse...it reminds me of the vintage attache case I was looking for ($4.99), and I boring black belt for interviews $.99). So the total was $17... it actually pisses me off to spend that much at a thrift store.

Happy Saturday!

Today I am wearing black J Crew leggings, an old Old Navy cardigan that used to be a lot longer and somehow shrunk, a vintage lace top, a vintage belt from the thrift store, and my trusty Ebay necklace. I can't tell if I like this outfit or not. What do you guys think.

Oh, the weird smudges are on the mirror... not on my clothes ;)

What I am Wearing Today.... and the winner!!!

First of all, my mirror is really dusty so I cleaned it off for the last two photos.

I wasn't planning on doing anything today, but one of the boots I am wearing in this picture decided it doesn't want to zip anymore so I might have to run to TJ Maxx to see if they have any on clearance. I only have 2 pairs of brown boots and the others are on their last legs too. Ahhhhh.

I really wish I could take better outfit photos. I apologize.

I am not sure how I feel about this outfit. I am wearing a thrifted little kid's plaid shirt, Citizens of Humanity jeans that I got for 50% off when a local store went out of business, a little kids leather belt from the Gap, and my new necklace. I wanted to layer on another necklace... I will play around with that later.

*Update... I drew the winner of the necklace and it is... (drumroll please)....

Imitation Is the Sincerest Form of Flattery

That is the correct saying, right?

Anyways, I became obsessed with finding a necklace similar to the one worn by the lovely writer of Dirty Hair Halo in this outfit. (BTW, if you don't already read her blog, I recommend checking it out right away... she always comes up the best outfits.)

Her necklace is from Forever 21, but I found a vintage Art Deco version on Ebay. I think I ended up getting it for around $20, which is more than the Forever version, but I can live with it since it is vintage.

Tuesday's Thrift Store Finds

Its snaining again today. Blah. I hadn't been outside my apartment since Sat night, though, so I really needed to do something this morning. I always drive by this Church thrift store in my neighborhood and tell myself I should stop in, but I never do. I looked it up online last week and discovered it is only open on Tuesdays and Saturdays. I was busy on Saturday, so I made a plan to go today. I called the store to make sure they were still open b/c of the weather and the lady on the phone told me it was 1/2 price day. As soon as I heard that, I literally ran out of my apartment. Hahahahahaha. The store is super tiny, but I managed to find some great items.

I got a tiny watercolor painting for $4, a vintage patent leather change purse for $3, a glass bird for 50 cents, and a paper box for free.

Scenes From My Apartment

Its snaining outside today (snow/rain) so I don't really feel like going anywhere. Yesterday John and I decided to clean and organize the apartment a little so I thought I would show you what we did.

We hung some of the prints I have purchased from Etsy:

Here is a vintage sewing basket that John's mother gave to me over the summer. I found a new home in the apartment for it yesterday:

This desk belonged to my father when he was little. I have been using it to display family photos in silver frames:

A little vignette I created using a vintage silver bowl my mom gave me, vintage baby shoes I found at Brimfield, an antique purse, and a tray from a thrift store:

A tiny sofa I bought for my first apartment and an antique pillow I found in a box marked "free" at Brimfield:

Flowers from Trader Joes in a vintage glass from my fav thrift store:

I hope everyone is having a wonderful Monday!!!!

Inspiration for Thrifting

I received the new Free People catalog yesterday and these images are a few of my favorites. I am going to keep an eye out for 70's sundresses, interesting ethnic belts, and a crochet dress while thrifting the next few months in preparation for Spring/Summer.

Happy weekend everyone!

I'm Starting to Go Stir Crazy and A Givaway!

Hi!...

Hmmm, I have been out of work 2 days and already I am bored. I have been spending my time applying for jobs and today I went wedding dress shopping with my mom. Here is what I am wearing today:

Nothing exciting... my Alternative Apparel tee, a Ralph Lauren cashmere cardigan, skinny jeans, brown boots, and a thrift store scarf.

Ok, now for the give-away. I am giving away a BrianneLee original necklace made from a reclaimed chain and an antique German beaded applique. I added a crappy photo of me wearing the necklace so you can see how it hangs. Just comment on this post for a chance to win. I will draw a winner next Thursday. This is open to US and international readers.
