Burning a Hole in My Pocket...

I just ordered this skirt from Etsy. Perfect for now, and in the winter I can wear it with a turtleneck and tights (ew, why am I thinking about winter already?) Also, it is a 1950s skirt, but it is a shorter length. I love vintage skirts, but I do feel like the lengths sometimes turn me off of them.

What Should I Make?

I found these brass tags at the thrift store about a month ago. I am still not sure what to make with them. Maybe a charm bracelet? I used one to make a necklace, but I feel like it is a little blah. Any suggestions?

Flowers

Today we had the first afternoon of sun IN A LONG TIME! I seriously almost cried this morning when I woke up and saw that it was raining yet again. Anyways, the sun finally came out, so I decided to take a little walk around my neighborhood and enjoy the nice weather.

I snapped these photos in my landlord's garden... shhhh. I also purchased these dishes today from the thrift store. Well, one of them I got at the same thrift store a few months ago so I am cheating a little ;)

*Hat Update*

Thanks for all the advice!

I decided to go with hat number 1 in a grey/blue color. I will show pics of it when it arrives!

New Obsession

Even though it seems like the sun is never going to come out in Boston, I want a straw hat. Which one do you like better?

Both images from Urban Outfitters.

My Little Collection

As you know, lately I have been buying these little 1920s/30s bisque dolls. I have no idea why I like them so much. My boyfriend thinks I am insane, and I really don't want to be a crazy doll lady (similar to a crazy cat lady) but I just think they are so darn cute! I have one more coming in the mail, and then I think I really need to stop for awhile.

This is how I have been displaying them.

What are your favorite things to collect?

One Man's Trash...

One of my favorite things to do at the Cape is go to the dump... yes, the dump. We don't have regular trash service, so everything has to get thrown out there at least once a week. At the dump, they have something called The Swap Shop. Here, "one man's trash is another man's treasure". There is a large shed where people can bring old books, furniture, housewares, records, purses, etc and leave them for other people who might have a use for them. The best part is... everything is free! Yesterday my mom and I dropped off some old gardening pots and I walked out with this vintage perfume bottle, an old scrapbook, a copy of Tom Sawyer, and a book about seashells.

If the Shoe Fits...

I found another pair of Ferragamo shoes today at the thrift store and this pair fits! I think I need to take them to a cobbler and get them re-soled, but they were only 99 cents so I still think they were a pretty good deal :)

Think Pink!

Today I left work a little early and decided to head to my favorite vintage store. I mentioned to the owner how that when I was there last, I was with my boyfriend's sister, and she had purchased a little 1950s playsuit and how now I wanted one too. She said that she actually just got one in and gave it to me to try on. I literally squealed when I saw it. I love it! Since I had not been there in so long and was unsure of when I would be back (ways I rationalize shopping), I bought myself a cardigan and purse too. Whoops.

Anyways, it was good day.

Fruit Loops

I found these shoes at the thrift store today. The colors remind me of Fruit Loops cereal or sherbet. I thought they would be fun summer "work" shoes.

Sunday Best

Ugh, I have to go to work today... not at all what I want to be doing on a Sunday. I was going to wear a dress, but its cold and rainy outside so I opted for pants instead. Yesterday my friends and I had a clothing swap party, and this top is one of the things I took home with me. I think it is my favorite item from the day! I also might add these snake bangles for some extra bling.

White cotton top-free from clothing swap
Vintage belt-99 cents from thrift store
H&M pants-I bought them around 4 years ago and I can't remember how much they were but I am going to say around $25
Red shoes-$20 from DSW

Mr. Bunny

Ok, so apparently I am regressing back to childhood because my last post was on dolls and this one is about my favorite childhood stuffed animal Mr. Bunny. Mr. Bunny has been through it all with me. I think I got him when I was a toddler. Pretty much all of his fur has fallen out, he has random holes, and pretty much everyone who sees him is scared of him. I don't care though, Mr. Bunny is here to stay!

I found this chair for $5 at the Salvation Army this past winter. Lately it has been a dumping ground for discarded clothes, so I decided to change that. I added a vintage throw, a white pillow from Ikea, and my fav childhood toy. I think I like it, but I also can't tell if its too nursery like. Thoughts?

Happy Friday!

Tonight after work I met up with some friends downtown for dinner and drinks. We went to a bar that overlooks Boston Harbor and relaxed in the late afternoon sunshine. So nice!

These are two of my newest additions to my little collection of 1920s/1930s dollies. I am not sure why I like them so much. I just look at the expressions on their faces and smile.

Yay for the weekend!

Another Blue and White Option

I took a quick trip to Marshalls on my lunch break today and found these seersucker shorts for only $10! They are the perfect length; not too short and not "mom" length. I paired them with a blue and white striped button down, the old lady sandals I found at the thrift store last week, and the straw bag from another thrift store trip. Too much blue?

I kind-of want...

This photo of Taylor Momsen from Garance Dore is making me want a little antique pearl necklace.

PS. I just figured out how to link my blog with Flickr. I am not liking the layout, so I will have to play around w/ it some more...

I have posted this before, but I love this little vintage cobalt blue perfume vial!

Happy Monday!

I tried taking a picture of the lace pillow, but its just not happening. Here is a picture of the armless dolly instead. I think she has the cutest expression on her face.

Newest Obessesion

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!

Lately I have had an obsession with vintage and antique lace... particularly lace linens for my bedroom. Today I found a beautiful lace pillow at an antique mall and I cannot wait to incorporate it into my decor. I hand washed it this afternoon and it is drying right now so I cannot take a picture of it. In the meantime, the above photo from Country Home Magazine will have to suffice.

Going to a Picnic

My boyfriend and I are off to his co-workers house for a bbq. This is what I decided to wear. I am going to try and take more pictures of my daily outfits. I am trying to redefine my style and need help so I welcome any comments you may have (suggestions for improvements, etc)

Anyways, this outfit is pretty simple. I think I am going to bring a vintage yellow cardigan with me b/c the house is on a lake and its a little chilly outside today.

Wearing:
Linen shorts from Forever 21 (not a huge fan of the store, but these are pretty basic)- $12
Blue and white striped tunic from H&M- $20
Leather sandals from TJ Maxx- $10

(Ah, the little part of my shirt that got untucked is annoying me and I feel a little wrinkly)

What Girl Doesn't Love Shoes?!

I found 2 pairs of shoes at the thrift stores today. The first pair (modeled by me... I hate my feet! I am very embarrassed that they are debuting on my blog) are so old ladyish, but I love them! They are really comfortable too. I cannot wait to wear them this weekend.

The second pair I found are vintage Ferragamo mary janes! I am so upset, though... they are 2 sizes too big! I couldn't leave them in the store, so I brought them home and put them in my Etsy shop If you are a size 10, you should definitely check them out.

Blog Tag

I would like to thank the lovely Meaghan of Left Hand Endeavor for tagging me! I always look forward to her vintage inspired blog posts, and I am so glad I have met her through the blogging community.

The tag involves answering 22 random questions and then tagging 8 more bloggers.

Here I go...

1. What is your current obsession?

Right now I really want to do a style/wardrobe overhaul. I am not sure what looks best on me. I have a closet FULL of clothes, but I always feel like I have nothing to wear. I want a simple wardrobe that is easy to mix and match and outfits that make me feel well put together and stylish.

2. What is your weirdest obsession?

I love everything in miniature! No matter what it is. If something is super tiny, I must have it. I also used to want to live in a dollhouse like Lilly Tomlin in the Incredible Shrinking Woman.

3. What do you see outside your window?

Right now I am at work and my office is on a pond, so I have a REALLY pretty view of water, lily pads, turtles, koi fish, birds, flowers, etc...

4. What is your favourite color?

BLUE!

5. What is your weakness?

Thrift stores, J Crew, antique jewelry, and chocolate cake.

6. What animal would you be?

I want to be a cat. Every morning I leave for work, my cat is curled in a ball sleeping and he looks so comfy and cozy and cute. I am always really jealous of him.

7. What would you like to learn how to do?

I want to start taking ballet lessons and also French lessons. I took French in high school and college, but now I don't remember anything. I would love to be able to speak a second language.

8. What do you want to never happen in life?

I am really scared of fire. I am always afraid my house is going to burn down. I have a weird OCD habit of checking the stove, coffee maker, my flat iron, etc. about 20 times before I leave for work to make sure I didn't leave anything on.

9. What is on your bedside table?

I have 2. One has a lamp, lip gloss, and a squirt bottle (to squirt my cat Oliver in case he attacks me while I am trying to sleep) The other has 2 antique purses and my collection of Little Leather Library Books.

10. What's the last thing you bought?

Cat food, Neutrogena Body Oil, Ziploc bags, and shampoo at CVS. Super exciting ;)

11. What do you think about the person who tagged you?

Meaghan seems like so much fun! I love her blog and the way she puts outfits together. She is def someone I could see myself being friends with if we met in "real life".

12. What was your favourite children's book?

The Store Bought Doll I lost the copy I had from when I was a child so I just ordered myself another copy on Amazon a few weeks ago.

13. Who do you want to meet in person?

I am going to agree with Meaghan and say my blogging friends. I feel like you get to know people so well by what they write online, and its weird b/c you have never met them in person.

14. What did you want to be as a child?

A scientist. Ha! I used to create "potions" in my room.

15. What did you dream about last night?

Awww, I can't remember. I usually have really vivid dreams too.

16. Which to you prefer, day or night?

My favorite time of the week is Saturday morning. I feel like there is so much possibility to the weekend. I am not really a night person... I am usually falling asleep by 10pm.

17. What's your favourite piece of clothing in your closet?

Hmmmmm. I am not sure if I have one right now. I am more of an accessories person. I am excited to get my 1920s one piece thingy, though.

18. What's your plan for tomorrow?

Work :( I plan on going to the beach this weekend, though :)

19. What would you like to get your hands on right now?

A vintage Mercedes convertible. Someday I am going to buy myself one and restore it.

20. What is your must-have of the moment?

Black ballet flats. I don't think they are in style anymore b/c I am having a really hard time finding a pair! I love heels, but I find that flats are a must for work and black goes w/ everything...

21. What's your favourite tea flavour?

I am not a huge tea drinker, but I like Chai.

22. If you could go anywhere in the world right now, where would you go?

Paris! I have never been. I really want to check out the flea markets there.

Now it is YOUR turn. I tag Elena-Lu, The Sydney Girl, Alicia, and Etrapar

Tuesday's Thrift Finds

Today I hit up the local Salvation Army. I bought 2 white glass pieces, a necklace that I suspect might be lapis lazuli, and a woven purse with leather straps. I had been looking for a purse like this for the past few weeks at the thrift store, so I was excited to finally find one.

I Won!

I need to preface this by saying that I NEVER win anything so it makes it extra special...

Today I found out I was the winner of a $300 shopping spree to Spreegirl through Lucky Magazine. I always enter their contests hoping that I might win, and it finally happened! I ordered a bunch of cute things from the site, including the items above. Can't wait to receive my package!
