My Collection

I have a few collections, but my favorite one is my collection of antique purses. I even belong to an antique purse society (I am a bit of a nerd). Anywho, here are some pictures of my collection. The angel purse is the first one I ever bought... I think I was around 16 when I got it. The last picture is of a purse my boyfriend's mother bought for me. It is from the 1920's. I love collecting things that have so much history to them. I like to think about who owned them and when they wore them.

It is Good to Have Goals

Part of the reason I am not spending any money for the next 2 months is that I want to save for a new bicycle. I actually do not think I have had a bike since I was a teenager. I usually will borrow one if I feel like going for a ride.

These bikes are actually pretty reasonable and they seem to get good reviews. I am also going to be a total grandma and buy a basket for it.

What are you doing New Year's Eve?

I purchased a bird/feather hair clip from this Etsy seller a few weeks ago and for some reason really want to wear it for New Year's Eve. I feel like Halloween and New Years are two of the few nights a year when you can get away with wearing something a bit crazy.

Speaking of New Years, do you have any resolutions for 2009? One of mine is to work on standing and sitting up straighter (I slouch really bad!), and I am also not going to spend any money on "extra" items for the months of January and February. I tried this out in November and did pretty well, but then I went a little crazy this past month! I think this goal is easier to achieve when you do it in small time increments. I definitely do not think I could go a whole year without shopping!

An afternoon with mom

My mother and I spent a nice early afternoon strolling around the Isabella Stewart Gardener Museum, and then we visited one of my favorite Boston antique stores. I picked up this little German mesh "gate top" purse. It is marked "US Zone" and "Germany" on the top, and the tag says it dates from 1946. I am trying to do a little research on it and can't seem to find any information on the internet. Does anyone have any suggestions?

When friends come to town

My best friend from high school now lives in LA, but she is home for the holidays this week. Yesterday we met up, and I took her to some of my favorite vintage stores around town. I bought a beautiful burgundy velvet skirt and a flowy white blouse. Lauren bought a fun red dress from the 70's to wear when she gets back to Cali.

I should have taken some pictures while we were together, but of course I forgot my camera :( Lauren and I also exchanged Christmas presents. She got me this cute B pin from Etsy and a little silver necklace that is inscribed with the word DREAM.

I know my pictures do not do any of these items justice. I would like to start doing real outfit posts after the New Year.

After Christmas Sales

Will you be taking advantage of the post Holiday sales this weekend? Gap is offering 25% off all purchases. I just purchased this skirt for work ensembles. I had been looking for a swingy black skirt to go with some of the vintage blouses I have acquired. I think this will be my only purchase, though. I have checked out a few other websites and although most are offering additional percentages off your purchase, a lot of the prices still seem high to me.

Mellow Yellow

I need some color to chase away the winter white blah that I am feeling right now

Sunday Funday

It has literally been snowing for 48 hours! Yesterday was spent shoveling, watching movies, and then attending a friend's holiday party downtown. Today will involve more shoveling and cleaning the apartment. Woo hoo.

Here are some pictures of one of my bureaus in my bedroom. You can see the modest start of my perfume bottle collection and a few pretty things that make me smile.

Saturday Night

I'm not exactly sure when I turned into an old person, but staying home on a Saturday night is so much more fun to me than going out and being crazy.

Here is a picture of one of my favorite corners in my apartment. I love this vintage typewriter!

Bunny Wabbits

I have always loved bunnies. My favorite toy when I was little was a stuffed rabbit named Mr. Bunny who basically was my best friend. Sometimes we would get in "fights", and I would throw him in the trash or in the neighbors yard, but I would always feel bad and rescue him a few seconds later. Mr. Bunny is still with me to this day...

Anyways, I still like bunnies and find myself drawn to anything with a bunny on it.

Choo Choo Train

I have 2 vintage train cases now (one I found at the Salvation Army for $6!) I want to start a collection, but I could see storage for them being an issue. Be that as it may, I still want these.

Train cases from GetReadySetGo.

Dress

So I bought this dress the other day from French Connection (in red). In the store it was $69.99 and then an additional 40% off. It came to $41. Online it is selling for $49.99 with no additional discounts and then you have to pay for shipping. I don't understand why stores do this (J Crew is the same), but it always seems like you get a better deal in the store. Is this some retail/marketing tool?
